Chrome Moving On Up

Google’s Chrome browser has now surpassed Apple’s Safari Browser for the third spot in the browser war.  According to the latest market share stats, Google’s Chrome Browser now makes up 4.63% of the browser market.  This is pretty impressive for a fairly new browser that does not even have stable versions released for Mac OSX or Linux operating systems.  Does Chrome have further to rise, or is it destined to stay tight in its number 3 spot?

I have not switched to Google Chrome full time yet, but I do have the dev build installed on my mac and actually like it a lot.  For now it is a secondary browser for me simply because Chrome can’t compete with all my firefox plugins (vimperator,foxyproxy,noscript,firebug,etc.).  Once Chrome’s plugins/extensions framework is more mature, and the features that I need are available via plugins, I think it may be ready to soar a lot higher in the browser wars.

Chrome is quick, simple, and easy to use.  Once it gets a few more features that power users are still waiting for, I think more people will be jumping on board.  What do you think about Chrome’s growth?  Tell us if you’re using Chrome and what you think about it!

My user experience with Google Chrome has been really good so far except a crash or two every now and then. In fact, I have been using Google Chrome a little more than firefox lately.

As for the growth rate of Chrome, it is really interesting to know that it surpassed Safari. But something to consider is that most of this growth rate is only early adopters. This doesn’t necessarily mean that it is a successful product so far. It just means that there is that many people that are willing to try it first hand and provide feedback.

    Good post.

I do agree with Will, so far I have been using Google Chrome as a secondary browser, I am really impressed with its fast rendering and the feature of running each tab on a separate process. It really helps when something crash to close only only the tab with the problem not the whole browser.

I also think that if Google managed so market successfully it’s Google Chrome OS, it will help a lot in increasing the number of users using Google Chrome since everything on their OS runs either as a Web Application, a URL or a link.

Regarding the plugins I do think that the community has started already to put chrome on the right track by contributing with plugins. Good examples for plugins sites are:
    http://www.mychromeaddons.com/
    http://www.chromeextensions.org/

Nevertheless they are far behind Firefox and IE 8 in their plugins support which definitely will help to improve the user experience and for trying to catch up with those browsers.

    Nice Post.
